Dan Bowman, from Fierce Health IT, has an interesting opinion piece on the thorny topic of National Patient Identifiers. A recent meeting of the College of Healthcare Information Management Executives (CHIME) launched a new ‘challenge’ to develop a private national patient identifier system. The reason, is that current methods of identifying patients in the US are inaccurate, especially so when trying to identify patients across different healthcare providers.
